It's about exile. Dreams. Nightmares. Pain. Hope. Wonder. Love. Friendship. Survival. Sanity. Madness. Identity. Change.

Still not helpful enough?

Okay. Farscape in a nutshell:A show about a bunch of people who have lost their places in the world, who are lost in almost every way you can imagine. Why that strikes such a chord with me? Let's put that question aside for later study. I do realize it casts a slightly disturbing light on my psyche.
So. Lost people in a large, weird and hostile universe. The only thing they can hold onto is each other, and even that is doubtful, 'cause some among their little group aren't the most reliable. Everything on Farscape is questionable. Relationships. Morals. Sanity. Identity. Farscape for me is very much about the loss of certainties. It rips its characters out of their respective safe places and throws them into a strange and frightening world, where they are suddenly vulnerable. Constant threat to their lives and sometimes to their sanity and identity turns their lives unpredictable, unprotectable, turns their beliefs and morals unreliable. Their priorities change, survival, something usually taken for granted in 'normal' life is suddenly a top priority, becomes something they have to fight for. From the situation of its characters results a certain wildness and unpredictability that dominates the tone of the series, that serves as a constant emotional backdrop to everything that happens on it. It is the feeling that we don't know what is waiting for us around the corner, on the next planet. It is, in a way, a sense of adventure, although that sounds much too innocent for the feeling I'm trying to describe here. A sense of being scared, too - sometimes maybe even terrified. You usually don't expect a TV show to take you to quite such a primal place emotionally, but Farscape does (well, it does for me).
